Very often people will go to get a massage when something in their body is hurting. Very often their neck will have some tension in it or their back will have some tension in it and they will want to get a massage in order to take the tension out of these areas. Now I understand that is where the pain is, but very often the actual tension is held in the front. You see that the front of the person is always being called down by our daily lives. Things like sitting in properly at a desk, doing computer work with our arms out in front of us, uh, looking down at our phones or sitting in the car or while driving. All of this is pulling us down in kind of pulling us back into a fetal position. Now, on top of all the postural things that are going on, there can also be some visceral or Oregon things that are contributing to the problem.

For example, let’s say that a person has a kidney that has some tension on it for one reason or another. That kidney is living right below the diaphragm on a muscle called the, so as of this, so as has two jobs, one of them is to bend us over and to bend us forward. So somebody who has trouble straightening up, somebody who has trouble extending their leg, well when they are walking may in fact have a tight psoas. So we have some Oregon things that are pulling us down and in another common car country contributor to fluxion is scar tissue from previous surgeries, surgeries like a c section or surgeries like all bladder removal or appendix, these sorts of things. They will tend to create extra tension in the abdomen and a natural response of that extra tension is to pull the body forward and to pull it down. So we have three things that may be causing a for infection.

One, the first one was postural things, things from our environment. The second was visceral things, things that have to do with our origins that are causing tension on the muscles. And the third is scar that has formed within the body. All of these are most likely to pull the pipe down and in. Now that means that when we are standing up, when we are trying to stand upright and Walk Upright, now there are our muscles have to fight against all of these forces. 

Our back muscles have to do extra work in order to keep us erect. Our neck muscles have to do extra work because it is most likely that our head is being pulled forward to some degree. Now the head is no longer sitting and resting on the spine, but it is being held up by the back or the neck muscles and all of this causes pain in the back and in the neck. Now when a person goes to a massage therapist and wants to get some relief from this tension, that massage therapist will often start rubbing on the person’s back or neck and it feels good. It feels very good to have these muscles released.

The problem is that so often nothing is done with the front muscles. Nothing is done about the original cause of the problem itself. So when we start to release the back muscles, it feels good, but it makes the muscles a little bit weaker and it makes them a little bit less able to do their job properly. 

So now the person that leaves the massage and they feel all good, they feel nice and loose, but those front muscles are still doing their job and they start to pull forward again. And now the muscles in the back have even less ability to hold the person up. And so they get tighter and tighter. And so what we’ve actually done is we have made the problem worse. Now, what is the solution to all of these things? What can a good massage therapist do in order to help the person receiving the massage instead of making the problem worse? Well, the first thing is to recognize the structure of the body. A good massage therapists will have an intimate knowledge of the body’s anatomy. How do the muscles react with one another? How do they flow into one another?

How do the organs work together with the muscles and how does scar tissue often affect the structure as well? 

With the knowledge of this, a good massage therapist will very often first start working on the front muscles with a specific front muscles that mean are the abdominal muscles, the pectoralis major muscles and the picture Allis minor muscles and the sternocleidomastoid muscles or the SCM. This group of muscles often has a lot to do with a forward head posture, with neck pain and with upper back pain. What do we take the tension off of these muscles? First of all then the back muscles have a chance to relax. They have a chance to recuperate.

They have a chance to do their job without being under undue strain, so when you go for a massage next time and the massage therapist wants to simply work on your back because your neck hurts, you know that that therapist does not have a really good understanding of anatomy or why the pain is there. To begin with. A good massage therapist will delve deep into the original cause of your pain, and we’ll do his best to determine if it is simply something from your environment or if there is something deeper involved, such as Oregon tension or perhaps some scar tissue. When these things are addressed, the massage will be much more effective and will lead to longer lasting results. So how can you find a massage therapists who specializes not simply in sweetest massage, but has a good understanding of anatomy?
